Squeak, squeak bang. The squeak of a nail being pried loose from a beam has become music to my ears. With some barn planks it’s hard to find a good starting point to wedge the crowbar into, so it’s a tiny victory every time the nails break free and the plank crashes to the ground. We’re almost ready to pull the barn down with the tractor—woo hoo! My mom and dad came down for our latest work session and were a major help. We pulled the rest of the siding down, and aside from structural pieces, we just have one small wall left on the inside and the roof.
Mom got the hang of the crowbar in no time and made quick work of the wood siding. I helped her with that and removed the screws I could reach in the random sheets of metal siding.
Dad and Dan checked the water and while everything they replaced held up during the test, they found a few more mistakes previous owners had made which will need fixed. The drain wasn’t connected properly to the sewer line (gross) and there was water leaking under the other side of the house which can only be accessed in the basement through a crawlspace (oh hey claustrophobia). Dad’s planning to bring a jumpsuit for that dirty job next time… I nominate Dan! They have no idea what they’re even working with on that side of the house because nothing can be seen from the opening of the crawlspace.
We received a surprise visit from my grandpa who assisted—it was definitely a team effort today! Loved having him as part of the action. It went much faster with everyone working at the same time.
Dan mowed our yard which seems like an amusing task right now (I mean, we can’t even flush a toilet), but it was looking jungle-like and is more presentable now. It was great to get some things done and the weather couldn’t have been better for a work day. It’s starting to feel more and more like fall in Ohio!
